Questions, answered properly
Where we do not know yet, we say so rather than making something up.
Grouped by who is asking. If your question is not here, call — you will get Kenny, not a script.
General
General questions
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. West Valley Mechanical LLC is licensed, bonded and insured in Arizona under ROC# 367985. That number is public — you can look it up with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and we would rather you did than take our word for it.
How quickly can you get out here?
It depends on the day and the season — July is not March. Call and we will tell you honestly when we can be there, rather than promising a window we already know we cannot hit.
Do you charge for estimates on new system installation?
No. Estimates on a new system or a replacement are free, and you get the price in writing before anything is ordered. A repair is a different thing — that starts with a diagnosis, and we will explain any charge for it when you book, not after we arrive.
What areas do you serve?
The Phoenix West Valley — everything west of I-17. That covers Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Avondale, Goodyear, Buckeye, El Mirage, Sun City, Sun City West, Litchfield Park, Tolleson and Waddell. We keep to that boundary deliberately, because it is how a small company actually turns up when it says it will.
Residential
Residential questions
How often should an AC system be serviced in Arizona?
Twice a year is the honest answer here, and once a year is the minimum. A system in the West Valley runs more hours in one summer than the same unit runs in two or three years in a temperate climate. Cooling gets checked in spring before the load arrives; heating gets checked in fall. Most manufacturer warranties also require documented annual service to stay valid, so skipping it can cost you twice.
How long does a system last in the Phoenix heat?
Less than the brochure suggests. Equipment rated for fifteen to twenty years elsewhere commonly gives ten to fifteen here, and a neglected system gives less than that. Run hours and dust are what wear these units out, not age on a calendar. A system that has been maintained will outlast an identical one that has not, often by years.
How do I know whether to repair or replace?
Age, the cost of the repair, and what else is likely to fail next. A cheap fix on an eight-year-old system is usually worth doing. A compressor on a fifteen-year-old system that is already struggling usually is not, because you are spending most of the price of a new unit to keep an old one limping. We will tell you which one you are looking at, and we are not paid more for saying replace.
What size system does my home need?
That comes from a load calculation, not from the size of the unit sitting there now. Square footage, insulation, window area and orientation, ceiling height, and duct condition all feed into it. Oversizing is a real problem in this climate: a unit that is too large cools fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity out or to circulate air evenly, so the house feels clammy and the equipment short-cycles itself to death.
What's actually included in a tune-up?
Cleaning and inspecting the condenser and evaporator coils, checking refrigerant charge against the actual conditions, testing capacitors and contactors, measuring temperature split and static pressure, checking the condensate drain, tightening electrical connections, and inspecting the filter and airflow. You get a written report of what was found and its condition — not a verbal “looks fine” on the way out.
Commercial
Commercial questions
Do you service rooftop units?
Yes. Packaged rooftop units are the backbone of light commercial work in this valley, and they take a beating here — sun exposure, dust loading on coils, and long run hours. We service, repair and replace them, and we will tell you when a unit is worth another season and when it is not.
Can you work after hours to avoid disrupting business?
Yes. Planned work gets scheduled around your hours, not ours — evenings, early mornings, or whatever your quiet window is. Say what your operating hours are when you call and we will build the schedule around them.
Do you provide documented preventive maintenance reports?
Yes, and they are part of the service agreement rather than an extra. Every visit produces a written record of each unit: what was checked, what was found, what was corrected, and what is trending toward a problem. That record is what you need for building files, for warranty claims, and for budgeting a replacement before it becomes an emergency.
What response time comes with a service agreement?
A guaranteed response window is written into the agreement, along with a locked labor rate for the term. The specific window depends on your site and your coverage — we will agree it with you rather than publish a number here that may not fit your situation.
Can you cover multiple locations?
Yes, within the West Valley service area. Multiple sites can sit under one agreement with one point of contact, one set of documented reports, and one invoice. If some of your locations fall outside our area, we will say so before you sign rather than after.
Service & Billing
Service & Billing questions
What payment methods do you accept?
Ask when you book and we will confirm what we can take.
What warranty comes with your work?
New equipment carries the manufacturer’s warranty, and registering it properly at installation is part of the job. Our own labour warranty is set out in writing on your estimate before you agree to anything.
What brands do you service?
Ask about your specific equipment when you call and we will tell you straight whether it is something we work on. We would rather answer that honestly than publish a list we cannot stand behind.
